Multifamily industry owners, managers and developers are constantly looking toward the future to anticipate what trends will require updates and/or new designs that will appeal to a wide customer base. Below are 5 trends we believe will become commonplace in new and updated multifamily developments.
- More Dedicated Space for Home/Meeting Offices:While some people have gone back to work in offices, many are still working hybrid schedules and will continue to need more private, dedicated work spaces along with meeting rooms that provide the technology to provide virtual meetings, presentations, podcasts and content creation.
- Meal Delivery Areas:As food delivery continues to grow, developers will need to incorporate separate service areas, which will include grocery, meal-prep and restaurant takeout delivery services. Similar to mailrooms, clients will demand dedicated drop-off areas for these delivery services.
- Wellness Centers:While fitness centers are the #1 amenity in multifamily, we believe that developers will begin to expand on this offering to include other spaces dedicated to health and wellness, including saunas, yoga areas and massage stations. These provide a natural extension to the fitness centers by providing the recovery and self-care needed after a vigorous workout, as well as fostering a better sense of community amongst its members.
- EV Charging Stations:As electric vehicles (EVs) become more ubiquitous among today’s residents, there will become a rise in need of EV charging stations, which will quickly go from amenity to necessity.
- Tech Upgrades:Features that make day-to-day living more convenient for residents will always be on the minds of developers. Smart appliances, keyless locks, virtual doorman services, etc. will become standard, while investments in upcoming multifamily technologies will continue to dominate the design requirements of the multifamily industry.
